TANZHAUS - A DANCE HOUSE FOR BASEL

Sonntag 21.04.24
From: Filippo Armati

Basel's Tanzhaus will begin its activities from autumn 2024 in a temporary location, Magazin 1+2, before relocating to its permanent home at SILOS 1-4.

The temporary venue will serve as a training ground and catalyst for building a local, national and international network with the goal of bringing communities, companies, dance artists, circus-related initiatives as well as other arts to the site. When part of the Franck Areal Complex, SILOS 1-4, opens in 2026, Tanzhaus will have its permanent home.

The Tanzhaus will serve as an umbrella for different genres of dance. It will operate around connecting, visualizing, experimenting, immersing, creating and exchanging. Guest performances and in-house productions will be presented alongside residencies and regularly organized workshops. Youth participation and social sustainability as well as adherence to the city's cultural and inclusive program will be central themes to the initiative. In this way, the Tanzhaus will become an inclusive center for the mediation of dance and art for people of different ages, social and cultural backgrounds. With its diverse program, the Tanzhaus will contribute to the visibility and strengthening of dance as an art form in Basel, thus creating a platform for exchange between the various disciplines and urban society.

GARAGENGESPRÄCH

The "Garagengespräch”, which will take place in the former Nestlé garage, will provide an opportunity for explanation and clarification on the development of the Franck Areal complex in Basel.

The Garagengespräch are deliberately held in an intimate setting which allows for direct exchange between participants and project leaders. This year's first Garagengespräch will be held on Thursday, May 2nd, 2024 and will focus on TANZHAUS BASEL. The leaders will provide in-depth insight into the planned project, introduce the premises, and hopefully motivate you for a dance with the "Public Groove" dancers.
