STEPS DANCE FESTIVAL 2026
From 5 to 29 March 2026! The Steps Dance Festival, presented by Migros Culture Percentage, brings contemporary dance to 33 cities and municipalities across Switzerland, featuring performances by twelve national and international companies and presenting a total of 74 performances.
The programme is complemented by a wide range of mediation and accompanying activities.
For the first time, Steps 2026 presents a double bill featuring choreographies created as part of the new NEXT STEPS funding programme. In 2026, this initiative brings together the St.Gallen Dance Company (choreography: Rachelle Anaïs Scott) and Bern Ballet (choreography: Marioenrico D’Angelo).
In parallel, Joy Alpuerto Ritter and Hannes Langolf (GBR/DE) collaborated in January 2026 at Tanzhaus Zürich with Swiss artist Sarafina Beck to create the production “The Fall / Risings”, which will be shown at several festival venues in March. Alongside international guest performances, Steps places particular emphasis on supporting the Swiss dance scene.
The festival opens on 5 March 2026 at Dampfzentrale Bern with Hofesh Shechter and his young company Shechter II, presenting the world premiere of his new creation “IN THE BRAIN.”
