CAMPAIGN “CULTURE SAYS NO”

On 8 March 2026, the Swiss population will vote on the popular initiative “200 francs are enough! (SRG Initiative)”. Culture says NO. CHF 200 is NOT enough! NO to the SRG halving initiative.

Multilingual and culturally diverse Switzerland depends on independent services in all language regions, as well as strong regional reporting. While these involve additional costs, they are essential for national cohesion.

Cuts would primarily affect smaller language regions as well as niche and emerging formats.

Further reductions would lead to additional cutbacks in the cultural sector—affecting everyone: cultural professionals would lose commissions and royalties, audiences would lose diversity, and regions would lose their voice and visibility. The constitutionally and legally mandated role of the public service media would be put under serious pressure.

Culture needs dialogue, not cuts.

Suisseculture supports the SRG, despite criticism. It maintains regular, open dialogue with the SRG and voices criticism where cultural formats are reduced and cultural presence weakened. Further budget cuts would dramatically exacerbate these issues, resulting in less cultural journalism, fewer commissions, and reduced mediation and outreach.
