FAREWELL TO DANCE PIONEER HÉLÈNE MEUNIER
Hélène Meunier, a formative figure in the Swiss dance world, has died at the age of 101. Her life's work and commitment have inspired and shaped countless dancers.
On August 12, 2024, after a life full of dance and dedication, Hélène Meunier performed her last pirouette. Born in London in 1923, her path led her to Switzerland during the Second World War. What was planned as a temporary stay turned into a lifelong adventure that has enriched generations of dancers.
After an early career as a stylist, Hélène found her way back to the world of dance. She passionately opened a dance studio in La Chaux-de-Fonds and brought the renowned Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) to the region. For over 50 years, she shared her knowledge, organized exams and accompanied her students on their path to professionalization.
Hélène was not only a teacher, but also an ambassador for dance. She promoted exchange between cultures, took students to international workshops and ensured that the art of dance found a home even in the remote corners of the Jura. Even at the age of 95, she was still teaching regularly - proof of her inexhaustible energy.
Her legacy lives on in the numerous careers she supported and in the love of dance that she kindled in so many hearts. With Hélène, we say goodbye to a true pioneer.
