NO MORE NO LESS
1982 - foundation of International Dance Day, 29 April.
Every spring, on April 29th, International Dance Day celebrates dance and its universality, bringing people together by speaking the same artistic language, crossing all political, cultural and ethnic barriers.
The International Dance Committee (IDC), in conjunction with the International Theatre Institute (ITI), created International Dance Day in 1982. The date, April 29th, was chosen to commemorate the birthday of Jean-Georges Noverre (1727-1810), creator of modern ballet.
Each year, on this occasion, a message from a well-known figure in the world of dance is broadcast across the globe. It aims to unite all existing forms of dance, to celebrate the unifying power of dance, to highlight its global aspect. A video clip of the author of the message has proven to be an effective and accessible form of promotion. In 2012, Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui produced a video that garnered over 30,000 views on YouTube. Find → here a list of all the personalities who have been selected up to now.
This year, the chosen personality is Marianela Núñez.
